Eastbourne Borough FC - GFA London

Tuesday 22nd October
Eastbourne Borough FC v GFA London

A day of controversy for the hosts as their manager Lee Bradbury parted company with the club the morning of our match. Eastbourne however got their first team captain to take the side as he was suffering a back niggle and the game was on.

GFA London started very strong, playing a 4-3-3 formation, looking to utilise the big target man ‘Carty’ up front. Both teams looked to play football and some great passages of play saw GFA create 2 clear chances early on, only for the opportunities to be wasted.

Outstanding defending from Joe Russell and Abs kept the back 4 strong, whilst Channing and Wilson provided a solid force in the middle of the park.

Carty going through on goal once more had a clear shout for a penalty, which was unfortunately turned down, although no explanation given! The Eastbourne number 9 found himself with too much time on the edge of the box and was able to weave through and net a good finish to take Eastbourne into half time with a 1-0 lead, which they were very happy with as the majority of chances had fallen to GFA.

At half time Eastbourne took Channing and Wilson from GFA to sit in their midfield as trialists, which evidently weakened the GFA line up, but great opportunity for both players, who relished the opportunity.

GFA found themselves under pressure 2nd half, which wasnt helped when in the space of 10 minutes both centre halves needed to be replaced, now playing a few players out of position. This however did not stop GFA from playing football and really pushed to try and get a foothold in the game.

Creative play from the GFA trailists produced 2 good goals for Eastbourne, leaving GFA keeper Mitch with no real chance of keeping them out.

GFA were able to give game time to 2 of the younger squad members, helping develop them as players and achieving high level experience.

The game finished 3-0 however GFA London gave a great account of themselves and Eastbourne certainly knew they had been in a match.
